Hip-Hop Star Niko Brim Joined Mount Vernon Youth and MVPD at Rally Against Police Brutality
MOUNT VERNON, NY -- (June 2, 2020) -- Mount Vernon City youth teamed up with the city government and the Mount Vernon Police Department (MVPD) at a unity rally entitled, “We Can’t Breathe.” The rally, held last night at Mount Vernon City Hall Plaza, was aimed at tackling the issues of police brutality, social injustice, and bridging the gap in communication between the community and law enforcement.
Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard, Police Commissioner Glenn Scott, Mount Vernon hip-hop star, Niko Brim, community leaders, youth, and many elected officials, motivated the crowd with rousing speeches.
Niko Brim is a hip-hop artist, producer, and activist from Mount Vernon, New York. He’s independently amassed over one million streams of his catalog and recently performed on Rapsody’s 'A Black Women Created this Tour.’ His forthcoming album, 'The King Has No Crown', drops summer 2020.
His flow sparks faith for a new generation music fans yearning for an expanded inventory of black joy, consciousness, and sonic gems. Brim’s earlier projects, including 'A Thousand Pictures: Book One' and its sequel, 'Book Two', earned him nods of respect from notable culture guardians, and artists, including Sway Calloway, Lil Kim, and Fabolous.
Brim has set his sights on staying the course purposefully — not just a mainstream presence — and his journey is mapped by the “Create Your Now” mantra. Its acronym serves as the moniker for the inspiring hip-hop collective of artists, activists, MCs, DJs, and gamers; Brim co-founded with rapper Kai Ca$h in 2012, CYN™.
